The expansion of aggregates due to neutrons is primarily caused by the behavior of individual minerals. Using molecular dynamics simulations, we have clarified the degree of expansion each mineral undergoes under neutron exposure and how its strength and Young’s modulus change post-expansion. The findings are now confirmed in the Journal of the American Ceramic Society.
